Injury Prevention and Return to Sport

ValleyCare is proud to offer a program specifically designed to reduce the risk of sports injury or reinjury for middle school, high school and collegiate athletes.

Athletes recovering from injury are guided by a physical therapist toward a safe and speedy return to sport. This program helps athletes to minimize the chance of reinjury or symptoms upon return to competition through a dynamic warm-up routine, upper/lower extremity strength and flexibility programs, dynamic balance and agility drills, and core strengthening techniques that are designed to improve performance and prevent further injury when returning to any level of competition.

This program can also assist healthy athletes in preventing injury from trauma or overuse. Each athlete is individually evaluated and supervised by a physical therapist during this program. This program is designed to be sport-specific for each individual athlete.

Fee: $20 per session, or 12 sessions for $200 if purchased in bulk.
When: Monday–Friday, 4 to 5 p.m., at LifeStyleRx

Motion Analysis

Many non-traumatic pain/injuries are often directly related to poor movement patterns with dynamic activities or sports. Improper mechanics are preventable with appropriate instruction.

ValleyCare Physical and Sports Medicine provides a motion analysis screening to help prevent injury and pain. Biomechanical analysis, in combination with a brief musculoskeletal assessment, can be used to prevent and address many pain and performance issues.

All evaluations will be conducted by a licensed physical therapist. Whatever sport, movement, or activity that is causing you pain can be improved immediately with better mechanics.

60-minute session includes:

  • Video motion analysis
  • Biomechanical assessment
  • Musculoskeletal screening—strength, flexibility, balance
  • Postural/alignment assessment
  • Home program exercise instruction and prescription to decrease pain

Fee: $150 with an optional 30-minute follow-up visit for an additional cost of $75.
When: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment.

Throwing Analysis

Pain and injuries in the elbow, shoulder and neck are often the result of poor throwing mechanics. With the growing demand for year round baseball/softball, the number of throwing injuries is on the rise. To stay in the game, athletes must have a sound throwing motion.

ValleyCare Physical and Sports Medicine offers throwing analysis for athletes of all ages and positions. Using video equipment that offers a frame-by-frame breakdown, a physical therapist will help you analyze your throwing motion. This makes it easy to identify poor mechanics that could lead to injury. After reviewing your throwing motion and performing a musculoskeletal examination, your physical therapist will provide exercises, stretches and advice to improve your throwing and minimize your risk for injury.

All 60-minute evaluations include:

Biomechanical assessment.

  • Frame-by-frame video throwing analysis.
  • Individualized throwing instruction.
  • Musculoskeletal screening.
  • Home exercise program—throwing drills and exercises for strengthening, stability, flexibility and motor control.

Fee: $200 (includes 60-minute evaluation and one 30-minute follow up session).
When: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment

Team Injury Prevention Screening

With increased time and money being spent on youth sports today, keeping young athletes injury free and in the game is as important as ever. Pediatric sports injuries are on the rise, especially from overuse caused by year-round participation in sports. Many of these injuries are preventable. Dedicating time in the off-season or pre-season can prevent injury and can also save playing time lost during the season if an injury occurs.

Concerned parents, coaches, and athletes need to be proactive and get ahead of these avoidable injuries. ValleyCare Physical and Sports Medicine offers a team injury prevention program to decrease the likelihood of injury and optimize performance throughout the year.

Each team will receive an in-depth evaluation by physical therapists specializing in injury prevention techniques. After this screening, an individualized program will be provided for each athlete, along with instruction. Team/sport-specific training programs and techniques with recommendations for team injury prevention will also be provided for coaches.

Fee: Varies with each team, please call for details.
When: All year. By appointment.
