Integrative Cancer Services at Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare
In recent years, there has been much talk about creating survivorship as a distinct phase of cancer care and providing each patient with a survivorship care plan. Whether you’re newly diagnosed with cancer or long finished with treatment, we can help all survivors in need.
At ValleyCare, we are committed to offering the best survivorship services available. This is why we have implemented our cancer rehabilitation program that includes training our staff in the latest oncology rehab care and implementing research-based protocols that have been proven to help cancer survivors feel better and improve their quality of life.
A cancer diagnosis can be traumatic, and so can life-saving treatments. Chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery can cause pain, fatigue and disability for survivors. Our program has been created to help minimize these side effects and help cancer survivors feel well both physically and emotionally. Our goal is to encourage our patients to have the best quality of life possible.
We utilize an interdisciplinary approach in which caregivers from different specialties team up to help patients increase strength and energy, alleviate pain, and improve daily function and well-being. The teams consists of:
- Physical therapists
- Occupational therapists
- Speech and swallowing therapists
- Registered dieticians and nutritionists
- Mental health professionals
- Guided Imagery and Healing Touch (Sandra Wing Funds can be utilized for this service)
When evaluating a patient, we take into consideration his or her health conditions as well as diet, sleep issues, existing pain, endurance, strength, exercise habits and emotional outlook. All of these factors are important for physical healing. After the evaluation, the health care team creates a personalized rehabilitation plan with the goals of increasing strength and energy, reducing pain, improving physical functioning, achieving emotional balance and boosting the immune system.
LifeStyleRx's Cancer Survivorship Wellness Program is designed to help patients become more independent and help find ways to manage side effects and recovery from cancer treatment.
