LIVERMORE, CA &ndash Colon cancer is currently the third leading cause of cancer death in women and the second in men. Proper screening, especially after the age of 50, has been shown to decrease mortality significantly.
To help increase public awareness about the importance of early screening and detection, ValleyCare Health System will host the
4th Annual Colon Cancer Awareness Walk on Saturday May 19, 9 a.m. at the ValleyCare Medical Plaza, 1133 E Stanley Blvd. in Livermore. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
The registration fee of $30 automatically enters participants in a drawing for a 50" flat screen TV. Registration also includes a commemorative T-shirt, complementary breakfast, bottled water, a brief informative talk given by Gastroenterologist - Dr James Lin, followed by a tour of the Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC). Participants will then enjoy an invigorating 5K walk along the Arroyo Mocho trail. Strollers and pets on leash are welcome. By participating in the walk, you will be helping to maintain colorectal cancer awareness in our community, as well as educating health care providers and the public about new research.
You will also have an opportunity to win one of 28 beautiful, chance-drawing gift baskets provided by the staff of the ASC, along with generous donations from our many Tri -Valley downtown merchants. A silent auction of five of the baskets will be held on the morning of the walk. Chance-drawing tickets are $1 and are available at the Livermore Ambulatory Surgery Center now until the morning of the Walk. For more information or to register, visit
