Pleasanton, CA – The ValleyCare Health System Charitable Foundation Board of Trustees recently welcomed long-time Pleasanton residents Bob and Joyce Shapiro to the serve on the Foundation Board as board members and co-chairman of the board. Both have served numerous community organizations over the years.
Joyce owned and operated the Gingham Corner gift shop for ten years in downtown Pleasanton and was the first woman Planning Commissioner for eight years. She was chairman when Hacienda Business Park was approved. She helped to organize the Pleasanton Downtown Association and was president of that association several times. She has served as president of the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce, has been the Leadership Pleasanton Program Director the past nine years and is a member of the Advisory Board for the Firehouse Arts Center. She has hosted many charity fundraising dinners for Las Positas College, YMCA, Sandra J. Wing Foundation, Camber of Commerce, The Firehouse and Rotary. An indefatigable volunteer, Joyce has won numerous awards including the Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen’s Award, Mayors Award, Community of Character Award and the State of California Local Hero Award. She is also a member of the ValleyCare Patient Experience Team.
Bob has been active in the Pleasanton and Tri-Valley community as well. He served as Director for the Chamber of Commerce for two terms, and also served as Chairman of the Foundation Board for the Chamber for two terms. He served on the Board of Directors for the YMCA, the Las Positas College Foundation and Uncle Credit Union. Bob is an eleven-year member of the Rotary, including being a Paul Harris Fellow and has served on many committees as a Rotarian. He has participated in a number of fund-raisers for the Firehouse Theater and the Sandra J. Wing Foundation. Bob has also received awards for his community involvement including: City of Pleasanton Mayor’s Award, Pleasanton Weekly Couple of the Year, Community of Character Foundation Award, Martin Luther King Jr. Business Legacy Award, Leadership Awards from the City of Pleasanton and Chamber of Commerce, and the State of California Local Hero Award.
