Stanford Health Care and ValleyCare Health System Sign Affiliation Agreement

Affiliation will Support the Delivery of Leading Edge, Coordinated Care to

Tri-Valley Region and Advance Stanford Medicine’s Academic Mission

Stanford, CA and Pleasanton, CA – (September 26, 2014) – Stanford Health Care and ValleyCare Health System today jointly announced that they have signed an affiliation agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, which was approved by each organization’s board of directors this week, ValleyCare will become a subsidiary of Stanford Health Care. Stanford Health Care is a nationally recognized academic health system and a part of Stanford Medicine, which includes the Stanford University School of Medicine and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. ValleyCare is a leading community hospital system located in the East Bay's Tri-Valley region of Pleasanton, Livermore and Dublin.

“The affiliation with Stanford Health Care strategically positions ValleyCare to address the current challenges in health care and it vastly improves our ability to care for Tri-Valley residents into the future,” said John Sensiba, chairman of ValleyCare’s board of directors.

The agreement calls for ValleyCare to retain its medical staff and employees and must still be approved by ValleyCare’s corporate members before it undergoes regulatory review.

“The combination of ValleyCare and Stanford Health Care will support the delivery of preeminent health care to Tri-Valley residents, and will advance Stanford’s mission to care, educate, and discover,” said Amir Dan Rubin, president & CEO, Stanford Health Care.

“The affiliation with ValleyCare Health System will help further Stanford Medicine’s three-part mission of research, teaching and clinical care which in turn, will benefit Tri-Valley residents,” said Lloyd Minor, MD, Dean of the Stanford School of Medicine. “Stanford Medicine is leading the biomedical revolution and our discoveries will help transform patient care for the Tri-Valley and beyond.”
