What's Involved in the Program?

The program is a balanced approach that focuses on strengthening, stretching, balance and cardiovascular conditioning. It meets twice a week for 12 weeks. Each session lasts 75 minutes and is led by certified fitness trainers who have experience working with cancer survivors. The groups are small so you will receive individualized attention throughout the program.

Is This Program Appropriate for Me?

People come to LSLW at different times in their journey back to health following a cancer diagnosis. Some participants come with a strong history of exercise in their lives and are looking to return to the prior fitness levels and beyond. Others come with very little exercise experience and want to learn how to safely work out in a group setting before venturing out on their own.

Everyone comes with a different baseline and can expect to increase their strength, endurance and flexibility during the program and to leave with the confidence to move forward independently. We meet you where you are and can help you meet your goals, no matter the level. You do need to be able to walk independently. If you have mobility issues, contact us before you register.

What Kind of Feedback Do You Get About the Program?

More than 3,400 people have come through the program. Everyone has reported they've gotten stronger, no matter what level they were when they started, and practically everyone has reported that they feel less fatigue and more vitality by the end of the program.

What Kind of Commitment Do I Need to Make?

Please commit to being there every time, except of course for emergencies. It only works if you are present and participating. The small group environment creates support and community between participants, and your presence at every session is integral to both your individual and the group's success.

Do I Need to Be a Stanford Patient to Join the Program?

You do not need to be a past or current patient at Stanford in order to participate in the program. Anyone who meets the criteria may participate.

Do I Need to Be a Member of LifeStyleRx to Join the Program?

You do not need to be a member of LifeStyleRx in order to participate in the program. You will get a 12-week membership when you enroll in the program and you can come in and use the facility outside of the LSLW program hours.

How Much Does the Program Cost?

This program has no cost for patients.

What Do I Need to Do for the First Day?

The first day is an orientation day. Just wear your regular clothes, as we won't be exercising that day. You don't need to bring anything. Please come to LifeStyleRx's front desk and the staff will assist you. We'll get acquainted, answer questions and set some goals, and you'll be filling out a few forms.

May I Go Through the Program More Than Once?

In order to make the program available to new cancer survivors who want to join, you may only attend the program one time unless you have a cancer recurrence or are unable to complete the program due to medical issues.
