A registered dietitian (RD) is a food and nutrition professional, equipped to perform a nutrition assessment, provide an individualized nutrition plan, and advise on follow up nutrition care for your personal needs. An RD will separate facts from fads and will help you translate this into understandable, science-based nutrition information, promoting positive lifestyle change for improved health. An RD is a qualified health provider for Medical Nutrition Therapy. A registered dietitian is a trained food and nutrition expert who has completed the following professional requirements:
- Minimum of a science based bachelor's degree (many registered dietitians have advanced degrees)
- Minimum of 900 hours in an internship (usually one year)
- National credentialing examination
- Ongoing continuing professional education
