What brings satisfaction? Studies show that volunteering does. Those who volunteer are frequently happier and more content, and they often find new friendships and expand their horizons in ways they never expected.
Caring and Compassion
Just ask any of the more than 250 ValleyCare Auxiliary volunteers if they enjoy their work. For more than 50 years, these caring men and women have unselfishly given their time and talent to help patients and visitors at ValleyCare's medical facilities.
Being a volunteer does require a commitment, but the amount of time you can devote is up to you. Many positions are available that are sure to fit your schedule.
The ValleyCare Auxiliary is involved in a variety of activities throughout the health system including: visiting patients through the Ambassador program, escorting wheelchair patients, delivering flowers, staffing the Gift Shop, directing visitors at our information desks, working in our outpatient surgery center and emergency services, and helping staff members in different departments throughout the hospital. You will also find them assisting patrons at the ValleyCare Health Library, or visiting with a patient in our Cancer Center.

High School Student Volunteers
High school students have been a part of the ValleyCare Auxiliary for many years. Students who may be considering a career in medicine often find being a Junior Volunteer is a good start.
Our Junior Volunteers unselfishly offer their time in a number of areas including:
- In-service for flower delivery, patient transport and hospital staff assistance
- Information and Reception Desk
- Gift Shop
- Outpatient Surgery Center
- Emergency Room
- Urgent Care Center
Students are scheduled for the evening shifts Monday–Friday and Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons.
To participate, you must be entering your Sophomore year of high school in the fall.
High school students, ages 16 and over, may now apply to become a volunteer. Please complete the High School Student Volunteer application and School Administration Form. Completed applications must be submitted via email to the address on the application.
2019 Auxiliary Scholarships
Scholarship Applications are now being accepted through March 24. To apply, print the application packet and follow the instructions carefully. Application packets are also available at all the local high schools. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
The Gift Shop is located in the lobby at ValleyCare Medical Center in Pleasanton. The gift shop offers a unique shopping experience with a wide selection of special and distinctive gifts. The gift shop sells everything from new baby gifts to kitchen decorations and gadgets. We are also happy to assist you in selecting a gift for someone special. If you have a friend or family member staying at ValleyCare, give us a call. We are happy to deliver a get-well gift to the room for you!
ValleyCare Auxiliary volunteers manage and staff the Gift Shop. Each year the Auxiliary contributes funding for many projects at ValleyCare and awards scholarships to local students through sales at the Gift Shop.
