Caring for the East Bay in the Tri-Valley
Providing care to the East Bay's Tri-Valley region for more than 50 years, ValleyCare’s origins date back to 1961 when Valley Memorial opened in Livermore. Now, with medical facilities in Livermore, Pleasanton and Dublin, we value our strong connection with the community.
Our Mission and Vision
Mission: To care, to educate, to discover
Vision: Healing humanity through science and compassion, one patient at a time.
In the 1950s, St. Paul's Hospital in Livermore proved too small for the communities of Livermore and Pleasanton. People grew weary of traveling to Oakland for health care, so local residents united and raised enough money, along with federal grants, to build Valley Memorial Hospital on land donated by Kaiser Paving Company in Livermore. Valley Memorial opened its doors in October 1961 with 46 beds and a medical staff of 23.
As the Tri-Valley community grew, so did ValleyCare, and in 1991 ValleyCare Medical Center in Pleasanton opened. Over the years, ValleyCare kept pace with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, adding new programs and services to meet your needs and those of the community, expanding to include new and remodeled buildings in Livermore, Pleasanton and Dublin. At the same time, ValleyCare's hospital and medical staff provided consistent, high-quality, yet compassionate and personalized care.
In 2015, Stanford Health Care and ValleyCare became partners in order to grow the depth of services and expertise available to the community. This passion for excellence, coupled with the pursuit of leading-edge technology, is why you can expect superior medical care to continue in the near future and for generations to come.
Since 1961, ValleyCare has remained a private, nonprofit, tax-exempt health care system. It is not publicly owned or operated, nor is it tax-supported. The new Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare will continue to be nonprofit, reinvesting any profits it makes from operations into new facilities, equipment and services, rather than providing them to outside owners in the form of dividends.
An important cornerstone for success is our warm relationship with our community and the mutual support built over the last 50-plus years. That bond endures to our common benefit. We are determined to uphold that legacy and look to you, our community, for continued support. Being exempt from taxation, Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare is permitted to receive tax-deductible contributions from the community to further its vision to heal humanity through science and compassion, one patient at a time.
