In the 1950s, St. Paul's Hospital in Livermore proved too small for the communities of Livermore and Pleasanton. People grew weary of traveling to Oakland for health care, so local residents united and raised enough money, along with federal grants, to build Valley Memorial Hospital on land donated by Kaiser Paving Company in Livermore. Valley Memorial opened its doors in September 1961 with 46 beds and a medical staff of 23.
As the Tri-Valley community grew, so did ValleyCare Health System, and in 1991 ValleyCare Medical Center in Pleasanton opened. Today, ValleyCare has a total of 212 beds and a medical staff of over 300, offering you a wide array of inpatient and outpatient services that are at a world-class level. Our facilities have expanded to include new and remodeled buildings in both Pleasanton and Livermore.
Over the years, ValleyCare has kept pace with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities adding new programs and services to meet your needs and those of the community. At the same time, ValleyCare's hospital and medical staff have provided consistent, high quality, yet compassionate and personalized care. This passion for excellence, coupled with the pursuit of leading edge technology, is why you can expect superior medical care.
Since 1961, ValleyCare has remained a private, nonprofit, tax-exempt health care system. It is not publicly owned or operated, nor is it tax supported. The ValleyCare corporation reinvests any profits it makes from operations into new facilities, equipment and services, rather than providing them to outside owners in the form of dividends.
ValleyCare also is exempt from taxation and is permitted to receive tax-deductible contributions from the community to further its mission. Today, ValleyCare depends on your contributions in order to keep pace with expanding community needs.
